Kansas City police say Mayor Sly James didn’t get special treatment when retrieving his son’s car from the city tow lot without paying a $200 fee.
Because the car had expired tags and damage, an officer thought it was abandoned. It was towed April 25 from in front of the mayor’s house and impounded with an outstanding warrant and expired tags.
But after James relayed that Kyle’s warrants had recently been taken care of, a supervisor ordered the car to be released with no fee.
It turns out the car did have one remaining warrant for parking at an expired meter. It apparently had been overlooked.
