Troop H of the Missouri State Highway Patrol will join St Joseph Police and the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railroad for another enforcement action along St Joe’s railroad tracks.
On June 20, the Missouri Operation Lifesaver program will place an officer in a freight train.
That officer will observe crossing violations.
The information is then passed on to officers in patrol vehicles, who will stop the violator and take enforcement action.
Captain Duane L. Robinson, commanding officer of Troop H, says Buchanan County has been selected because it is one of 13 counties in Missouri with elevated crossing crashes.
Since 2011, seven crossing crashes have occurred in Buchanan County. As a result of these crashes, one person has died and three others have been seriously injured. To help curb this trend, the three agencies will work together in an attempt to end violations at crossings.
