Mustangs drop season-high third straight as they lose to Nevada

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs lost to Nevada Friday night, 7-4, as St. Joe’s summer college baseball team has dropped three straight games for the first time this season.

The Mustangs fell behind 2-0 after four innings, but St. Joe got one run back in the sixth when Kyle Simpson scored on a double steal to make it 2-1.

The game stayed that way until the ninth inning when Nevada finally got to Mustangs’ starter Aaron Baker.

The Griffons scored five unearned runs to extend their lead to 7-1.

St. Joseph finally broke through in the bottom of the ninth with three runs, but they fell short and dropped to 8-8 on the season and 6-8 in the MINK League.

Baker threw a complete game and allowed nine hits and two earned runs.  He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter as he is now 2-1 this summer.

Connor Foreman drove in two of the four Mustangs’ runs.  Eric Swain and Kyle Richards had two hits each to lead St. Joe.

The Mustangs will play an exhibition game Saturday as they host the Missouri Western Alumni at Phil Welch Stadium.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and can be heard on 680 KFEQ and 680KFEQ.com
