Mustangs win exhibition game against Missouri Western alumni, 5-1

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs got back in the win column Saturday night as they played an exhibition game against the Missouri Wetsern alumni and won 5-1 in a rain shortened game.

The game was called in the bottom of the eighth inning because of rain.

The win won’t count in the standings for St. Joe’s summer college baseball team, but it was much needed after three straight losses.

The Mustangs got on the board quickly as Joe Koerper hit a three-run home run in the first innings and then Kyle Richards hit a two-run home run in the third.

That was all Stanten Jones would need on the mound as St. Joe’s starter went eight innings and allowed one run on six hits.  He struck out 10 and didn’t walk a batter.

Koerper and Zac Johnson each had two hits to lead the Mustangs’ nine-hit attack.

St. Joseph (8-8, 6-8 MINK) is back into league play Sunday as they travel to Nevada for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
