Saudis In Springfield Seek Bond Reduction After Attack

Greene County sealSPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Lawyers for two men from Saudi Arabia accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in southwest Missouri want a judge to lower their bond.

Ahmed Ayed Alanazi and Rayan Mohammed Alqabbaa are each being held on $1 million bond. They’re charged with kidnapping and forcible sodomy stemming from an alleged attack June 1 in Springfield.

Their attorneys, Dee Wampler and Joe Passanise, have asked for a bond reduction hearing, which is set for July 30 in Greene County associate court.

Court documents show prosecutors asked for the $1 million bond because of the crime and the possibility the men could leave the U.S., though their passports would be confiscated.

Missouri State University says the men attended its English Language Institute in the spring.
