Bogus Kidnapping Claim Lands Albany Man In Jail

St Joseph police say a 24-year-old Albany, Missouri man has been charged with theft after falsely claiming he’d been kidnapped and held for ransom.

Arraignment is scheduled Friday for Taylor Hensley on one count of theft, a class-c felony.

In a news release police say when Hensley asked a family member to drop him off at an address in St. Joseph.

The family member was contacted by Hensley the following day when he claimed he was being held by a subject he owed drug money to. Hensley allegedly asserted he would be killed if he did not pay his debt.

Police say he asked the family member to bring him the cash so he could pay the man. The family member contacted law enforcement and Hensley was tracked to a residence in St. Joe.

When investigators contacted him, officials say Hensley pointed a gun at himself. However he was taken into custody without further incident.

A judge set bond at $7,500.
