“Celebrity Hunter” Sentenced To Prison, Barred From Hunting For One Year

Spooknation
“Spook” Spann, the “celebrity hunter” from Tennessee, was sentenced to federal prison time after violating his probation. A magistrate judge in Kansas City also ordered Spann not to hunt for one year.

Spann pleaded guilty to a charge of transporting a deer that was unlawfully taken across state lines. The animal was shot in Stafford County, Kansas. Spann was found guilty of a misdemeanor violation of the Lacey Act.

A judge granted probation last year, during which time he was prohibited from hunting for six months, admonished not to commit any additional crimes and ordered to pay $20,000 in fines and restitution.

On June 10, the federal probation office in Kansas filed a petition alleging Spann violated his probation by hunting in Tennessee and violating a Tennessee law against baiting wildlife. U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. O’Hara ruled that Spann violated the terms of his probation by hunting in the United States within six months of his sentencing and baiting turkeys in violation of Tennessee state law.

Judge O’Hara ordered Spann to spend a total of 30 days on nights and weekends in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons between now and next February.

He also ordered Spann not to hunt anywhere in the United States or the world until Aug. 1, 2014.

On his Web site, the television hunter calls his success in the whitetail world “a true blessing.” To date, he has harvested 25+ Pope & Young whitetails and 12 Boone & Crockett whitetails. He claims to have harvested over 20 different big game animals around the world.
