A woman sentenced to five years for child abuse in Tecumseh, Nebraska, for allowing her daughter to remain in her car during a police chase and shootout, was also sentenced this week for the robbery in Pawnee City that led to the pursuit.

Authorities in southeastern Nebraska say District Court Judge Daniel Bryan sentenced Jamie Engstrom in both cases on Monday.

Engstrom pleaded guilty in Pawnee County to a reduced charge of attempted robbery.

She received a six to ten year prison term, to be served at the same time as her prison term in Johnson County for Child Abuse.

She and her husband Michael Engstrom are also charged with murder in Topeka, Kansas.

Pawnee County Attorney Jennifer Stehlik Ladman says Michael Engstrom is scheduled for jury trial Monday on robbery and weapons charges.

 

Authorities say the couple robbed a Pawnee City gas station at gunpoint during the evening hours of February 13, 2013, taking gasoline, merchandise, and an undisclosed amount of cash .

The pursuit and shootout began soon thereafter.

Engstrom’s 14-year-old daughter remained in the car during the robbery, and the police chase, according to prosecutors. Officials do not expect the teenager to be charged.

 

Johnson County Attorney Julie D. Smith said the 35-year-old woman pleaded guilty to child abuse on April 15, for “knowingly, intentionally, or negligently causing or permitting a 14-year-old female [passenger] to be placed in a situation that endangered her life or physical or mental health.”

She was sentenced Monday morning to five years without parole. That afternoon, Judge Bryan pronounced sentence in the Pawnee County case, ordering a six to ten year prison term. Jamie Engstrom will be transported to the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women in York, Nebraska, to serve her prison sentences.
