The City of St. Joseph and the Allied Arts Council invite you to apply for the second traffic box public art project. The goal is to create and paint art on traffic signal boxes in the downtown area and turn St. Joseph street corners into miniature art galleries.
The Council and the City hope to decrease graffiti on traffic signal boxes, while making them artful objects. With the 2013 traffic box location, 4th & Felix, the Council hopes to grab the eyes of visitors and those attending events at the Civic Arena.
“We’ve had so many people stop by our first traffic box location and admire the transformation of a plain traffic box into a piece of art. We hope that the same is true at this year’s location,” said Teresa Fankhauser, Executive Director, Allied Arts Council.
Interested artists should visit the Council’s website, for an application. Artists need to send in a resume, reference contact information, a template for each submitted design (if more than one), and an artist statement for each design.
They must be postmarked by October 1, 2013 to the Allied Arts Council office. The chosen artist will receive an honorarium of $1,500.
