St Joseph officials advise you to avoid St Joseph avenue Saturday through Monday, as crews install a seal coat on the pavement from Highland Avenue to 300 feet north of Maxwell Road.
Parking will be prohibited and access will be limited.
Officials say the coating will be installed in a moving operation that will take four or five separate passes along the length of the street.
During this operation, parking will be prohibited on St. Joseph Avenue. That will allow the seal to cure and allow use the outside lanes for traffic during the inside lane coating application.
The project is scheduled Saturday, September 21, through Monday September 23. The work may be completed in less time and if so parking restrictions will be removed. The work is weather dependent so rainfall could delay the work by one or more days or even to the following weekend.
Access during the work to and from St. Joseph Avenue will be substantially restricted. It is best to avoid using or crossing St. Joseph Avenue during this work if at all possible. The coating takes approximately 3 or 4 hours to cure before it can be driven on by traffic.
During the coating installation to the outside (parking) lanes, access to St. Joseph Avenue will only be available through a few streets: Karnes/Northwest Parkway, Krug Park entrance, Randolph heading east, 5th Avenue, and Hamburg. After the outside lane coating has cured, access to the Avenue will be available at all side streets and driveways but only for right turning traffic to prevent vehicles from crossing over the uncured coating on the center lanes.
Striping will begin the following week. Parking will be prohibited for one additional day during the next week in order to finish the striping. The city will notify the adjacent property owners and residents 48 hours in advance of the date.
