KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Former Kansas City Royal outfielder Willie Wilson is again sporting a 1985 World Series ring, thanks to some good friends and fans.

Wilson, who spent 15 seasons with the Royals, sold his World Series ring at a bankruptcy auction in 2001.

On Tuesday, Wilson was surprised with an exact duplicate of the ring while he was promoting his autobiography at the Negro Leagues Museum in Kansas City.

Wilson’s business partner Helen Mohr says the Royals gave her permission to have an exact duplicate of the ring made. Friends, including Pearl Jam star Eddie Vedder, raised $8,500 to replace the ring.

Wilson said he would wear the ring with pride and honor and never let it go again.
