The AT&T regional director in Saint Joseph says the way to stop texting-and-driving is to make it social unacceptable. Michael Chambers says surveys have made that very clear: 90 percent of teens say if they were texting behind the wheel and a friend in the car asked them to stop, they would.

Chambers says it’s not just teens who text and drive. Surveys show that 98 percent of adults know it’s wrong to text and drive, but 49 percent admit doing it anyway. The National Safety Council says more than 100,000 traffic accidents a year are caused by texting and driving. Chambers says it’s an epidemic that’s as unacceptable as drinking and driving.
