Two Livingston County men have been convicted of hunting raccoons by spotlight from a motorized vehicle and selling the pelts. 52 year old Lester Hines of Avalon told investigators that they intended to sell the 125 pelts in their vehicle when they were arrested in December of 2012. He also admitted that 57 pelts had been sold earlier. He was sentenced in August to seven years in prison.
53 year old Billy Hicks of Avalon also pleaded guilty to illegal sale of wildlife with a value greater than $500. On September 16 he was given suspended imposition of a four-year prison sentence and placed on four years probation.
