A one-car crash in Nodaway County Sunday night killed the driver and left the sole passenger in serious condition.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 20-year-old Damion J. Smith of Fairfax lost control of his car along Missouri Route 46, five miles west of Maryville, at 10:50 pm.  The vehicle left the roadway and hit a bridge before continuing down an embankment.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Jeffery Wooten, 21, of Fairfax, was taken by ambulance to St Francis Hospital.
