(AP)The ongoing government shutdown is getting a mixed reaction in southern Missouri river towns, where federal lands such as the Ozark National Scenic Riverways are closed.
Residents in the region overwhelmingly voted for a ballot measure in 2010 that opposed requiring people to buy health insurance, and many strongly support reducing the size of the government.
The 80,000-acre wilderness area around  draws tourists to the 134 miles of the Current and Jacks Fork rivers. Many come this time of year to enjoy the autumn.
Residents and tourists said they were fed up with the federal government and the shutdown. But some businesses, such as Akers Ferry Canoe Rental, are suffering a big economic loss because of the shutdown.
