Missouri man sentenced in teenager’s death

(AP) — A Springfield man will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole for his role in the shooting death of a 17-year-old high school student.jail

Jordan Martin was sentenced Thursday for first-degree murder in the March 2010 death of Kody Ray. The victim was shot on the porch of his Springfield home, where a birthday party for a 5-year-old was being held.

Prosecutors say Martin persuaded another man, James Duke, to shoot Ray. They say Martin and Ray were part of an earlier brawl and Martin believed Ray talked to school administrators about the fight.

Martin’s attorney argued he didn’t know Duke intended to shoot Ray.

Duke is also serving life in prison for shooting Ray.
