Kansas City, Missouri is re-branding. The city unveiled its new logo Thursday, a “linked K and C” reminiscent of the crest used by the Kansas City Monarchs Negro Leagues baseball team.
The old logo, a red, white and blue fountain, cropped to look like a Valentine, has been in service for more than twenty years.
In a break with tradition, the logo is “open source.” On its Web site, the city states that “anyone or business, with good intent, has permission to use the new mark. We encourage our entire commuinity to embrace the new brand. The new Kansas City mark does not just belong to the government, it belongs to all of KC.”
