Sammy Lawrence Matthews 73, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 in a Saint Joseph, MO hospital. He was born November 5, 1939 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Sylvia and Jesse Matthews. He graduated from Faucett High School. He retired from Boehringer Ingelheim as the manager of Biologist production, starting with the company when it was Anchor Serum, then Phillips Roxanne, after retirement he worked at Phoenix Scientific. He loved to travel with his wife Nancy to Colorado to visit family, and was always busy helping others. Sammy was a member of the King Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by wife, Nancy Kay Matthews, his parents, a daughter, Cynthia Matthews, a son, Shawn Matthews, a brother, Jesse Matthews, three sisters, Velma Ritchie, Viola Kneib, and Mary Huffman. Survivors include, daughter, Becky Matthews, son, Eric Matthews and wife Kim all of Saint Joseph, MO, two granddaughters, Kristen Sheehan, and Samantha Matthews, a grandson, Bronson Kidwell, two brothers, Virgil Matthews of St. Joseph, brother, Earl Matthews of Dearborn, MO, and two sisters, Joyce Frakes of St. Joseph, MO, and Donna Huffman of St. Joseph.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am, on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at King Hill Baptist Church, with Pastor Greg Dixon officiating, The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the Rupp Funeral Home.
