Voters in the Mid Buchanan School District will decide next week whether to increase the operating levy by 68 cents to offset cuts in state funding over the last three years.
Becky Ellison, co-chair of the bond/levy committee, says voters will also be asked to approve a bond issue to build a tornado safe room. The stand-alone room would also provide space for elementary physical education, indoor recess, and community meeting facilities.
A $1.1-million FEMA grant will pay for 75 percent of the cost. The bond issue would provide the 25 percent local match.
Voters in the Mid Buchanan School District will decide both issues November 5.
