A South Carolina man was killed Wednesday in a crash on US Highway 71 south of South Avenue in Maryville.

According to a news release from the Maryville Department of Public Safety, Ojmar Krapp, 63, of Society Hill, SC, was driving north in the southbound lane, trying to pass a vehicle.

Krapp’s Nissan crashed into a Kia driven by 58-year-old Valerie Bilecki of St Joseph.

Mr. Krapp was pronounced dead at the scene by Nodaway County Coroner Dr. Vince Shelby. Ms. Bilecki was transported from the scene with serious injuries by Nodaway County Ambulance to St. Francis Hospital and later transferred to Heartland Health in St. Joseph.  Bilecki was later transferred to another facility.
