Dorothy M. Brown, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, November 4, 2013 at her home.
She was born July 3, 1927 to Wyatt Jr. and Beatrice (Smith) King in Kildare, Texas.
She married Algridge E. Brown on January 10, 1945. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2001.
Dorothy was the co-owner of Al’s Thrifty Market and successfully established and operated a beauty salon for several years. She was a member of St. Francis Baptist Temple and the Mission Board of the church and a volunteer at the Open Door Food Kitchen.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sharon “Sherri”; one sister; and two brothers.
Survivors: children, Henry Brown (Elizabeth), Cincinnati, Ohio, Richard Brown (Marsha), Glendale, Arizona, Irving Brown (Jennifer), Cincinnati, Ohio, Charles Brown (Susan), St. Joseph, Missouri, Sheldon Brown, St. Joseph, Missouri, Carolyn Starr, St. Joseph, Missouri, Saundra Dunn (Jonathan), Kansas City, Missouri, Mary Brown, St. Joseph, Missouri, Yvonne Turner, Richmond, California, Sophia Brown, San Leandro, California, and Tamarra Brown, Fremont, California; twenty grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, sisters, Marilyn King and Annie Miles (Jerry); brother, Opris King (Shirley); and numerous nieces and nephews. Services: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, St. Francis Baptist Temple. Interment Ashland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Tuesday.
