About 750 voters who live within the Tri-County Ambulance District were not allowed to vote last week on the county-wide ambulance tax, even though they were entitled to cast a ballot.
“It was just a mix-up with the clerk,” said Presiding Commissioner R.T. Turner.
“It’s just one of those things, a regrettable mistake that we wished hadn’t happened.
“It wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the election, of course we would have liked to have done where everyone had their opportunity to cast their vote.”
Turner says the miscommunication affected about 750 voters. He says if every one of them voted, and voted not, it would not have changed the outcome. The 1/4 cent sales tax hike passed by around 3,000 votes.
The affected voters are still served by their ambulance district, but Turner says the new county service will also serve the area.
“When the highway patrol calls we will answer those calls there,” he said.
“We’ll work to serve them as much as we can. We want them to be a part of this even though they didn’t get a chance to vote on it.”
