Shirley A. Shimer
1934-2013

Shirley Ann Shimer, 79, of St. Joseph, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at a local hospital.

Shirley was born October 5, 1934 to Samuel and Leota (Edwards) Allen in Maryville, MO. She later moved to St. Joseph where she spent most of her life and attended Benton High School. On August 21, 1953 she married Dale Shimer in St. Joseph. Shirley was a member of King Hill Baptist Church. She was also an avid Kansas City Royals fan.

Preceding her in death is her parents; three brothers, Harry, Richard and Ralph Allen; great-grandson, Bret Dulcan and son –in-law, Forey Higdon.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Dale Shimer Sr.; son, Dale Jr. (Tiny) Shimer of St. Joseph; daughters, Pamela (Monte) Jamison, of St. Joseph and Barbara Higdon of Oregon, MO; Seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services under direction of Clark-Sampson Funeral Home will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Community Christian Church with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Clark-Sampson Funeral Home, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association.
