Russell Duane Barton
1936-2013
Russell Duane Barton, 77, Kansas City, Missouri went to be with his heavenly father on November 16, 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Russell was born May 8, 1936 to Curly and Edith Barton in King City, Missouri.
Russell graduated from Maysville High School, where he lettered in football. He loved 4 wheeling and playing in the snow with his grandchildren.
He was an Elder in the RLDS Church, and loved nothing more than to pray for the sick and perform marriage ceremonies. He touched many lives during his time as a Christian, and during the last 5 years, he tried to share his story of Gods Miracle with someone every day. He leaves behind a legacy of caring, nurturing and mentoring many who were not his own children.
Russell was a very creative metal craftsman, owning and operating Accent In Iron (the best little iron shop in KC) for 33 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Lois Steiner-Hutchcraft.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Mary Helen Smith; daughters, Cathie Helsel (Scott), Carla Ruoff (Terry), and Kim Barton; grandchildren, Jason Osborn (Jen), Crissy Liggett (Chris), Corey Barton (Rita Morales), Adam Ruoff (Alena), Cody Ruoff (Brittany Shinneman) and Joey Helsel; and great-grandchildren, Tristyn Liggett, Jonas Osborn, Rylin Ruoff, and Jacoby Osborn.
Services: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph, Missouri. Interment Union Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
