A group that salvaged photos after the 2011 tornado in Joplin is closing down.
Lost Photos of Joplin plans to hold a final public event Friday at the Joplin Museum Complex for anyone still seeking photos from the tornado.
The remaining photos, documents and personal items found after the tornado will be archived and kept with the Murwin Mosler Collection for anyone wanting to claim them.
The National Disaster Photo Rescue organization, which formed after the tornado, will continue to provide a website and social media help to the museum for the immediate future.
Lost Photos officials say more than 100 volunteers collected, organized and documented about 35,000 photographs. More than 17,000 photographs were returned to more than 700 families.
