Accused Car Thief Leaves Cell Phone Behind

A would-be car thief in North Platte, Nebraska needs work in a couple of key skill sets.

Local residents discovered and reported damage to the steering column of their vehicle on November 1. The perpetrator had left his cell phone behind.

According to the North Platte Post, an officer took the phone a placed a call to “Dad” in the contact list.

“Dad” answered the phone, identified the phone, and the son who borrowed it

Andrew Lauber, 23, was contacted by police but refused to meet with officers.

On December 5th, an officer had contact with Lauber on an unrelated issue and placed him under arrest on one felony count of attempted theft of the vehicle.

Lauber was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.
