Volunteers who help adopt-out stray dogs and cats in Saint Joseph say it’s time for a larger animal shelter. Kappy Hodges says the Friends of the Animal Shelter would raise funds for the new facility and give it to the city. The Friends estimate the cost of a new shelter in a different location at about $2-million.
Hodges says the current shelter on Lower Lake Road is hard to find, too small, and not designed according to modern standards for dog and cat adoption. The Friends are asking residents who think a new shelter is worth considering to let their City Councilmember know.
