St Joseph voters will winnow down the field for the open City Council seats in primary election voting Tuesday.

But the weather could play an important role in the outcome.

Buchanan County Clerk Mary Baack-Garvey says winter weather warnings in place Tuesday prompted her to cut in half her earlier prediction for voter turnout.

“My original prediction was 20 percent,” Baack-Garvey said. “Hearing the horrible news of the weather coming in tomorrow, I don’t think we’re going to hit that even remotely close.”

“I’m hoping for at least ten percent now.”

Ms Baack-Garvey says they have lined up some drivers to make sure poll workers arrive their polling places on time and are able to return the completed ballots quickly as well.

In District Five, which includes parts of Midtown and southeastern St Joe, voters will choose between three candidates. The top two voter-getters will advance to the general election in April.

The entire city, including District Five, will also pare down a list of ten candidates vying for the three at-large council seats. The top three candidates out of the ten will appear on the general election ballot.
