Three people were injured in a Wednesday crash in Atchison County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol 37 year old Robert A. Cummings, Jr. of Leavenworth was driving a 1995 Isuzu Rodeo northbound on U73, South of 230th Rd. in Atchison County, passing a line of vehicles in a passing zone while a 1992 GMC van driven by Donald L. Bird of Atchison was southbound on U73.

The vehicles tried avoiding each other but collided in the southbound lane.  Cummings and Bird were transported to KU Medical Center. Daniel F. Russell, age 40 of Shawnee, KS, a passenger in the Isuzu was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center. James H. Bird, age 40 of Atchison, a passenger in the van, was transported to the Atchison Hospital.
