A Montgomery County man was sentenced Tuesday to 6 years in prison for manufacturing methamphetamine, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

Ray Simmons, 46, Independence, was sentenced to 72 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections by Judge Gary House in Montgomery County District Court for manufacturing methamphetamine in October 2012. Simmons was found guilty of this crime in November 2013.

The charge stemmed from an investigation by the Independence Police Department. Assistant Attorney General Greg Benefiel of Schmidt’s office prosecuted the case.
