The Northwest Missouri State baseball team took a break from conference play as they defeated Midland University Tuesday in a nine inning contest, 4-3, and move their season record to 21-17.
Ryan Abernathy singled in Nikko Pablo in the top of the second inning to plate the first run of the game. Brandon Huske scored on a wild pitch later in the same inning to put his team up 2-0.
MU answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to tie it up at 2-2.
Austin Wulff doubled to left field to bring in Jon Pomatto who had led off the inning with a single. Wulff would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Pablo to give the Bearcats a 4-2 lead.
MU managed one more run in the fifth inning but were shut down the rest of the way out by the Northwest bullpen.
The bullpen allowed only one base hit from the sixth inning on to secure the victory. Daulton Perry earned his second win of the season and is now 2-0.
Up next, Northwest will head to Emporia for a four-game series with the Hornets. Originally scheduled to start on Thursday, the series will now feature a pair of double headers of Friday and Saturday due to weather concerns. Friday’s games will start at 2 p.m. and Saturday action will begin at 1 p.m. at Trusler Sports Complex.
