GEARY COUNTY–A fire in a back storage area at the Thunderbird Marina area near Milford Lake caused about $25,000 damage Sunday night.

The damage estimate was provided by Geary County Rural Fire Chief Garry Berges, who confirmed there were no injuries.

Berges said a boat, some old lumber, and that type of debris were among the items that burned, and some buildings were threatened. But the main business was not impacted.

“It was back where their work area is, their storage area.”

Berges added Geary County responded to fight the fire with six trucks, and the Junction City Fire Department sent a brush truck to assist in putting out the blaze. Firefighters got the call on the fire about 6 p.m. Sunday.

A State Fire Marshal’s Office investigator was called to the scene, but the investigation was halted for the night when lightning accompanying thunderstorms began to occur. The cause of the fire  has not yet been determined.
