INDEPENDENCE, Kan. (AP) — A set of human remains found in a southeast Kansas sewer line have been identified as those of a man missing since mid-January.
KOAM-TV reports a crew from the city of Independence discovered the remains May 19 while working on the line near the Verdigris River.
Independence Police Chief Harry Smith said Wednesday a medical examiner identified them as those of 29-year-old Dustan James Roberts. More tests will be needed to determine the cause of death.
Roberts was last seen leaving his Independence apartment the morning of Jan. 13 walking into woods near the river. He was reported missing a few days later.
