JUNCTION CITY — A major fishing tournament is headed to Milford Lake the final weekend of May in 2015.

Rick Dykstra, assistant director of the Geary County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, confirmed the Cabela’s 2015 National Team Walleye Championship will be held at Miford Lake.
“When we hosted the event in 2003, it was big, and it is just as big now,” he said. “We’ll have about 520 contestants in the area for at least five to six days. … It’s going to be a significant economic impact and great exposure for the area.”
Dykstra also confirmed the tournament will bring in fishermen from the entire nation, and media from across the nation.
“It will be nationally shown on the NBC Sports Versus channel, and then streamed live during the event, so we’re going to get great exposure,” he said.
