A Change In Direction On Stipends, Up To A Point

SJSD2The St Joseph School board changed direction on stipends for top administrators. The board approved new contracts for school principals and others that include a two percent pay raise. That’s the pay raise teachers will get under their new contracts.

The board voted to remove the controversial $5,000 stipends from the contracts that they approved last March.

The new direction came as part of a recommendation from a special committee appointed to look into the stipends and other issues in the district. The school board did not follow the committee’s recommendation on compensation for travel.

The committee recommended the board remove a travel stipend from the contracts, and replace it with reimbursement by the mile. The board voted to leave the travel stipend in place.
