Back To The Status Quo In Maryville; Council Votes To Retain Bar Entry Age Of 19

cocktailsA change in the law in Maryville amounts to no change at all. The City Council voted Monday to repeal an ordinance that would have prevented people under 21-years old from entering local bars.

Under the current law, people 19 and over may go to bars but are not allowed to consume alcohol unless they’re 21.

That situation would have changed July 1 under an ordinance passed in January. But the council voted to repeal that change. This marked the third vote on the issue in about a year.

The new mayor, Renee Riedel says she wanted to revisit the issue with the new council that took office after the April election.

Two council members on record in support of raising the entry age, Jeff Funston and Glen Jonagan, were not present for the vote. The measure carried 3-0.
