Charges Of Aiding A Felon Against Rebecca Hollister Dismissed

Rebecca HollisterTOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A woman whose husband was convicted of killing Pat Kimmi of Horton no longer faces charges of helping him avoid arrest.

Charges were dismissed Wednesday against Rebecca Hollister, wife of Roger Hollister, who was convicted of killing 58-year-old Patricia Kimmi in 2009.

Rebecca Hollister, of Topeka, was charged in March with aiding a felon. Prosecutors had alleged she tried to help her husband avoid arrest and conviction after Kimmi’s death.

Roger Hollister died in March while serving a life sentence in the El Dorado Correctional Facility.

Nemaha County Attorney Brad Lippert said in his motion to dismiss that an essential state witness had died, making it difficult to prosecute Rebecca Hollister.

Huge Weather System Could Spawn “Derecho” Winds

derechoWASHINGTON (AP) — Meteorologists are warning that a gigantic line of powerful thunderstorms is likely to threaten one in five Americans.

The storm system packing tree-toppling winds is forecast to rumble Wednesday from Iowa to Maryland.

The continuous line of storms might even spawn an unusual weather event called a derecho.

That’s a massive storm of strong straight-line winds spanning at least 240 miles. A historic derecho last year killed 13 people and knocked out power to 4 million residents.

Bill Bunting, operations chief at the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, says Wednesday’s storms are likely to produce tornadoes, dangerous lightning and large hail.

Power outages are likely, to be followed by oppressive heat. Cities at risk include Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Detroit, Baltimore, Washington, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Ohio, and Louisville, Ky.
