A veteran TV anchorman has been fired in the wake of comments he made on Facebook claiming “pressure” by the IRS following his 2012 interview with President Barack Obama.

KMOV-TV announced the firing of Larry Conners on its website Wednesday.

Conners later told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that his Facebook posting simply raised questions about the possibility of an Internal Revenue Service vendetta. The posting followed national stories about the IRS targeting conservative political groups.

The KMOV statement from Mark Pimentel, president and general manager, says that the posting of a personal political opinion on one of the station’s Facebook pages “creates an appearance of bias that is inconsistent with important journalistic standards.”

A Kansas City man faces up to 20 years in prison after admitting his role in a hapless attempt to rob a bank.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says 26-year-old Martron Bailey pleaded guilty Wednesday to trying to hold up a United Missouri Bank branch in KC last November 6th.

Investigators said Bailey and another man ambushed an employee arriving for work and ordered her to open the door. The woman said the door could only be opened from the inside, where another employee had already spotted the activity and called 911.

The would-be robbers ran to their car. A resident thought they looked suspicious and took pictures of the two men and the car — making it easy for police to eventually link Bailey to the bungled holdup.

Two new lawsuits have been filed against a Kansas City priest convicted of taking lewd photographs and the officials who oversaw him.

Plaintiff’s attorney Rebecca Randles says the latest suits bring the total number of cases filed over Shawn Ratigan’s conduct to seven.

Ratigan pleaded guilty in August to producing child pornography after police learned of hundreds of images of children, most of them clothed, with the focus on their crotch areas.

Ratigan’s case led Bishop Robert Finn to be charged with failing to report suspected abuse because there was a delay in notifying authorities. Finn became the highest-ranking U.S. church official to be convicted of a crime related to the child sexual abuse scandal.

The diocese released a statement expressing “profound sorrow” for any harm Ratigan caused.
