Man accused of molesting female gymnasts in Missouri

WASHINGTON, Mo. (AP) – A volunteer coach has been charged with inappropriately touching female gymnasts in eastern Missouri.

David Schneider was charged Tuesday with three counts of child molestation. Bond is set at $100,000. No attorney is listed for him in online court records.

Police also say they’ve learned of three additional girls. They were only seven or eight at the time and are now 12 or 13.

Schneider was a volunteer coach from fall 2011 to spring 2014 at Kids in Motion in Washington, Missouri. Owner Piper Hoemann said she was shocked to hear the allegations. Hoemann says Schneider was never alone with any girls when he coached.

Schneider was also a volunteer at the Four Rivers YMCA. The YMCA said it has never received any allegations about Schneider.

Procter & Gamble closing Kansas City plant, affecting 280 workers

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Procter & Gamble says it is closing its plant in Kansas City, Kansas, in 2020.

Company officials told about 280 full-time employees of the decision on Wednesday.

The Kansas City Star reports the company plans to transfer production of its Our Dish Care business from Kansas City to its plant in Tabler Station, West Virginia. The West Virginia plant will also absorb jobs from the company’s Iowa City, Iowa, plant, increasing the workforce in West Virginia from 700 to 900.

Procter & Gamble said it will negotiate with the local labor union to help employees during the transition.

The Kansas City plant was built in 1905. Its products include Dawn, Gain, Ivory and Joy hand and dishwashing detergents.

Democrats gain Missouri House seat in special elections

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Democrats have picked up a Missouri House seat previously held by Republicans in one of several special elections.

Democrat Mike Revis of Fenton defeated Republican David Linton in a close race Tuesday to win a suburban St. Louis seat vacated last September by the resignation of Republican Rep. John McCaherty.

Republicans kept hold of three other seats in Tuesday’s special elections to replace GOP House members who resigned.

When the newly elected House members are sworn into office, Republicans will hold a 115-47 majority over Democrats with one remaining vacancy.

The national Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee says it has now flipped 35 seats previously held by Republicans in contested elections for state legislatures across the country since President Donald Trump won election in November 2016.

Temps in the 20s today, warmer tomorrow

This morning will start off chilly with low temperatures in the single digits and wind chill values below zero across the area. Temperatures will warm up to near freezing today but winds will keep it feeling like the teens to lower 20s. A warm up will occur Thursday afternoon with high temperatures in the upper 40s to possibly the lower 50s south of HWY 50. A cold front will return to the area Friday afternoon splitting the area up with high temps in the 20s north of the MO River and in the 40s south of the Missouri River. Kansas man accused of trying to buy child for $250, meth

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A Kansas man awaits extradition to Kentucky on a human trafficking charge after he allegedly tried to buy an 11-year-old girl for $250 and some meth.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports a Franklin County grand jury indicted 48-year-old Ernest Merle Anziana on Tuesday.

Franklin Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Zach Becker says Anziana was snared during an undercover investigation by the Kentucky Attorney General’s Cyber Crimes Branch, and there was no actual girl for sale. He says Anziana intended to have sex with the 11-year-old girl, impregnate her and keep that child.

Kansas Department of Corrections records indicate he was previously convicted of incest.

He’s being held in Kansas, pending extradition. It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer.

Anziana has 3 previous convictions for Aggravated Incest, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Mo. man dies after ejected in rollover crash

HOWELL COUNTY —  A Missouri man died in an accident just before 2p.m. Tuesday in Howell County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2005 Pontiac G6 driven by Dean M. Ragan, 24, West Plains, was eastbound on Highway 160 five miles west of West Plains.

The vehicle traveled off the left side of the road rolled, and ejected the driver.  Ragan was not wearing a seat belt, according to the MSHP.

Mo. court considers attorney-client privilege in drunk driving case

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Missouri Supreme Court is considering what action to take after police recorded a central Missouri prosecutor talking to his attorney.

The court heard arguments Tuesday in a case involving Moniteau County Prosecutor Shayne Healea, who backed into a Columbia restaurant in 2014.  He was accused of drunken driving in the accident that injured four people.

Healea is asking the state Supreme Court to disqualify the Attorney General’s office from prosecuting the case. He contends the office violated attorney-client privilege because it had a recording provided by the Columbia police department that contained a private conversation between Healea and his attorney.

The Columbia Missourian reports the Attorney General’s office argued Tuesday it should remain as special prosecutor because the office didn’t know it had the recording and no one there listened to it.

It is unclear when the Supreme Court will rule.

TECH SCOOP: Quick speed tweaks for your Windows 10 PC

the pace you want it to. This gets even more frustrating when the computer was working at your desired speed for a while but has suddenly stopped doing so. Below are some quick how-to’s to speed up your Windows 10 PC.

By far, the No. 1 thing that will bog down your machine is temporary files being stored in the machine. The easiest way to combat this is to download and install the free program CCleaner, https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download

This program will automatically go through and delete all those files that are taking up space on your computer.

  1. Download CCleaner (it’s a small program and won’t take up space on your computer)
  2. Find the CCleaner install file in your computer downloads folder (or wherever you have set files to download)
  3. Double click the application install file and allow it to run on your computer.
  4. Once CCleaner is open you just have to press “Run Cleaner” and then press “OK” on the windows that pop up afterwards.
  5. When the program has finished running, It will then tell you how many temporary files were deleted. Then you are free to close the program. (I run this program about every other week on my machines.)

If you still haven’t noticed any improvements, then you can dig a little deeper and shut off some unnecessary Windows services.

  1. On your Windows machine, press the windows key (next to your ctrl and alt button) and the r key at the same time. After that combination has been pressed, a run command box will open in your bottom left hand corner. From there you can type in, services.msc and press enter or click “OK.”
  2. This will open up your Windows services. The first service to look for is one called Superfetch.
  3. Once you find it you can right-click on it and select “Properties.”
  4. This will open another window.
  5. Find start up type and change it to “Disabled.”
  6. At the Service Status, go ahead and stop the service and the press “Apply” and then “OK.” You can also apply the same steps to the services, “Background Intelligent Transfer Service” and “Windows Font Cache Service.”

SJSD cancels classes for Wednesday

The St. Joseph School District is canceling school Wednesday due to weather conditions and sickness in the district.

According to the district, activities and practices may continue as scheduled – families will receive further communication from activity sponsors.
