Applications open for girl’s Summer Film Camp

(News release) –  The non-profit organization Red Echo Group with Girls Behind the Camera is putting on a film camp for ten girls from 11-15 years old from a wide variety of backgrounds.  The organization plans to tour a local television station, learn acting, filming, fashion and additional workshops.

According to a news release distributed by the St. Joseph Visitors Bureau, experts will teach the girls about their craft. Also, because of funding from the Kemper Foundation the camp is completely free of charge and will cover transportation if needed.  The release said the goal of the volunteer team is to help empower and inspire at-risk teen girls through teaching technology and the arts. Two camps are being held this summer:
July 17-19 in Kansas City – 9am-3pm
July 20-21 in St. Joseph – 9am-3pm

Red Echo Group is also working with BrightStar Media to on its documentary GIRL.

“Back in 2007, our director Tara Veneruso created a similar film camp for at-risk teen girls to learn about technology and filmmaking. The film is a profoundly intimate window into the lives of these teenage girls growing up in the heart of America. Over ten years, we’ve followed their journeys of self-discovery and their shared experiences of hope, fear, desperation, and resilience in the face of our unforgiving culture. The 2-day camp will be filmed as part of the documentary to explore a new generation of teen girls,” the release stated.

Girl candidates between 11-15 years old from all backgrounds are being sought by the group.  For more information or to participate email Sebastian Crank at sebastian.crank@brightstar.media.
