According to Sheriff Steve Cox, Aiden W. Volker was extradited from Boston, Massachusetts where he was arrested after he left Canada. Cox said Volker, 27, has been sought since November, 2008 on a warrant alleging two counts of 2nd-degree burglary.

Cox also announced the extradition of Athena Rose Chandler of Brookfield from Lake Charles Louisiana, where she was arrested on a Livingston County arrest warrant. Chandler, 36, is charged with violating her probation on an original conviction of Stealing and Making a False Declaration.

Also extradited was Derrick C. Risinger, 32. Risinger was arrested in Walker County, Texas on a Livingston County arrest warrant for an alleged probation violation on his conviction on charges of possession of controlled substance.

Livingston County will be reimbursed by the State of Missouri for expenses incurred on these out-of-state extraditions, Cox said.

Governor-elect volunteers at Second Harvest

The Second Harvest community food Bank in St. Joseph hands out more than five million pounds of food per year to its members in Northwest Missouri and northeastern Kansas. This week, some of the food bank’s members will receive a box of food packed by the next Governor of Missouri.

Eric Greitens came to St. Joseph on Tuesday to lend a hand at Second Harvest, and to greet supporters at an event at Missouri Western State University.

“One of the things we wanted to do was to stop by and highlight the tremendous work that they’re doing at Second Harvest,” Greitens said. “You know they’re feeding 15,000 people per week here.”

“And the fact is there are real Missourians who are out there who are hurting. And especially at a time like this, with the holidays, it’s important for all of us to recognize that we all have a role to play.”

The governor-elect and members of “Team Greitens” volunteered to help pack boxes of food Tuesday.

“It’s a pleasure to volunteer,” Greitens told reporters. “I’m inspired by so many Missourians who are out there volunteering every day doing work like this. We appreciate all the work that the volunteers are doing here today.

Greitens also stepped into the Fresh Start food pantry at Second Harvest to meet and greet the food bank’s members.

The governor-elect’s team then moved on to Missouri Western where he hosted another stop on his “Thank You Tour.”

Plans are in the works for a new SSM Health Preschool & Childcare Center on the St. Francis Hospital campus.

According to a news release, the new facility will double the current capacity to serve 136 children. It will also allow for the addition of an Early Head Start program in Nodaway County, and serve as another level of education for practicum students from Northwest Missouri State University obtaining an early childhood education degree.

“The single best economic development investment a community can make is early childhood development,” said Josh McKim, Executive Director of Nodaway County Economic Development.

Construction will begin in March with a projected opening date for January of 2018.

A spokeswoman said the current facility that serves 67 kids will be torn down. The new center will be located on the St. Francis Hospital campus between the SSM Health Medical Group clinic and the Maryville Middle School.

SSM Health St. Francis Hospital received 50% Tax Credits through the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) from the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED), which will contribute $500,000 towards the construction of the new center. Approximately $255,000 in credits remain available for purchase to qualified contributors.

Boehringer and Sanofi transaction closed

Boehringer Ingelheim and Sanofi announced Monday the businesses have officially swapped assets in most markets.

The announcement comes after last week’s agreement with the Federal Trade Commission in which Boehringer agreed to divest several animal health products in the United States.

Monday,Boehringer and Sanofi confirmed that the transaction signed in June 2016 consisting of an exchange of Sanofi’s animal health business (Merial) and Boehringer Ingelheim’s consumer healthcare (CHC) business, has successfully closed in most markets.
