(Update) “No evidence of shots fired was located”

wpid-wpid-sjpd-patch1.jpgSt. Joseph police say they found no evidence of shots fired after receiving multiple reports early Wednesday.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m. Friday, people started calling police dispatchers to report hearing shots fired near South 15th Street and Edmond. Early reports indicated anywhere from six to 12 shots were fired.

An early investigation indicated a detached garage had been hit several times. But later, Captain Jeff Wilson said it looked like old damage. Capt. Wilson says no evidence was located of any gunfire.

“Officers originally thought they located a detached garage that had been shot into,” Wilson said in an E-mail to reporters, “but after investigating determined it looked like old damage. No evidence of shots fired was located.”

Route 6 closure planned for tonight

wpid-wpid-modot-logo-200x150-200x150.jpgAMITY, Mo – A Route 6 closure is planned for tonight in DeKalb County.

A wind farm project is bringing windmill towers to locations throughout west and central parts of DeKalb County. As part of this project, large cranes used by the contractor will be moving across Routes 31, 6, J, and N at various times during the upcoming weeks. When the cranes are moved, it will require a full closure of the roadway. Most of these closures should take four hours or less.
The upcoming Route 6 closure is planned for Friday at 8 p.m. and is expected to take no longer than four hours. The closure will be from Route N to Ogle Road on Route 6. All scheduled closures will be posted on MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map, which can be found at www.modot.org. During the closure, motorists should seek an alternate route.

Each of the towers will require multiple, slow-moving, oversized loads with police escorts navigating to each tower location. This may cause local travelers some delays.

Matthew Jackman
A hearing is scheduled later this month for a Cameron man accused of raping his wife.

The victim told police last week she woke up in bed to her husband’s persistent efforts to have sex, which continued despite her repeated efforts to get him to stop. In court documents, police say the man stopped his efforts when he finally saw her face.

He allegedly told his mother that he thought he’d raped his wife, according to court documents.

The suspect, Matthew Jackman has posted bail awaiting a hearing September 29. Among the conditions of bail are a requirement that the defendant seek a mental health evaluation. The judge ordered him to have no contact with the victim, and not to be at their residence.

Jackman is charged with 2nd Degree Rape, a Class-C felony which carries a maximum prison term of seven years upon conviction.

Police association honoring Northwest Officer Anthony Williams

Officer Anthony Williams
Officer Anthony Williams

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Anthony Williams, an officer with the Northwest Missouri State University Police Department, is named among the recipients of the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s (IACP) first 40 Under 40 Award.

The 40 Under 40 Award recognizes 40 law enforcement professionals under the age of 40 from throughout the world who demonstrate leadership and exemplify commitment to their profession.

Winners were selected based on criteria that included their capacity for leadership and their demonstration of strong values and commitment to the law enforcement field and to the communities they serve.

“He is an example of what every police officer should be,” said University Police Chief Clarence Green, who nominated Williams for the honor. “Growing up in the urban core of Omaha, Nebraska, has allowed him to have experiences that are difficult to understand. His experiences of being raised in Omaha, accompanied with his education, training and development, have allowed him to make connections with members of our community who traditionally are not supportive of police.”

Williams joined the University Police Department in December 2010 and is a member of its crisis intervention team. During his tenure with the department, Williams has regularly presented to student, faculty and community groups about safety, security policies, self-defense, and drug and alcohol prevention. He also collaborates with enforcement agencies to accomplish goals and assists with field training for new officers.

Williams graduated from the law enforcement academy at Missouri Western State University in 2010 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwest in corporate recreation and wellness in 2012. He is pursuing his Master of Business Administration at Northwest.

The 40 law enforcement professionals selected for the award include heads of security, digital strategists, chiefs, assistant chiefs, special investigators, managers, commissioners, superintendents and captains from all over the world. They represent all levels of law enforcement agencies, including state, local, university, military and federal.

“These 40 law enforcement professionals encompass an outstanding group of law enforcement professionals,” Terrence M. Cunningham, IACP president and chief of the Wellesley, Massachusetts, Police Department, said. “Each one of these individuals was chosen for their commitment to their agencies, their communities and strengthening the law enforcement profession. It is truly an honor to recognize these men and women for their service and the many accomplishments they have achieved so early in their professional careers.”

Williams and the 2016 IACP 40 Under 40 Award winners will be featured in the September issue of Police Chief magazine and honored Oct. 17 at the 2016 IACP Annual Conference and Exposition in San Diego, California.
