Authorities identify woman who died in custody

Platte County Sheriff patch jpgAuthorities have identified a woman who died in custody of the Platte County Sheriff’s Office last week. Authorities say 50-year-old Emma Lewis was found in medical distress in the back of a transport van. Officials say she had been in the van for an approximately five-minute transport.

Public Information Officer Captain Erik Holland said last week that lifesaving efforts were attempted but Ms Lewis could not be revived. Holland says she lived in the Platte City area.

Platte County Sheriff Mark Owen asked that the Clay County Sheriff’s Office investigate the death. That investigation continues.

Rollover crash injures St. Joe man

MSHP purpleA single-vehicle crash south of St Joseph early Wednesday morning sends a St. Joseph man to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 23-year-old Sutton Mattucks swerved to avoid an animal in the roadway along Route A shortly after midnight.

The Ford Ranger left the roadway, struck an embankment and went airborne. The vehicle rolled and went into a ditch.

Mattucks was transported to Mosaic Life Care for treatment. The injuries were described as serious at the scene of the crash, but a nursing supervisor at Mosaic says Mr. Mattucks was treated and released.

Beverly Flint, 67, Oregon, Missouri passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Mosaic Life Care.
She was born July 12, 1948 in Oregon, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Margaret (Barton) Flint.
Survivors include, two brothers, Loren and Harry and their children.

Carl C. Jagodzinski
1935-2016

unnamed (23)Carl C. Jagodzinski 80, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016 at his home. He was born November 16, 1935 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Stella and Alex Jagodzinski. Carl was a good man and a wonderful husband with a smile that lasted forever. He started his working career at the age of 13 for Kelsey Nursery which was located off of Alabama in St. Joe and retired in 2007 at the age of 71 years young from Bunge Milling in Atchison, KS. He liked fishing and watching the deer that came through his property, and taking care of his peach orchard. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers: Frederick, James, Tommy, Louie, Anthony, and George Jagodzinski, and two sisters, Hattie Shefflebarger, and Eleanor Jagodzinski. Survivors include, his wife Maretta Boswell, three sisters, Mary Ann (Leonard) Newey of Saint Joseph, MO, Katherine Gregg of Bronson, KS, and Delores Graf of Plains, KS. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am, on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Stewartsville, MO. Memorials are requested to Asera Care Hospice.

Man accused of pointing loaded gun at woman and punching her in face appears in court

A preliminary hearing is scheduled later this month for a St Joseph man being held without bail for allegedly punching a woman in the face and pointing a gun at her.

Michael Leigh is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, a class-D felony. According to police, Mr Leigh was drunk at the time of the incident on Saturday. Leigh is accused of pointing a loaded semi automatic pistol at the victim and punching her in the face.

In court documents, a detective says the suspect’s blood alcohol level was .75 approximately 7.5 hours after the incident. Detective Frank Till also said in the affidavit that there was a child present when the defendant allegedly put a gun to the head of the victim.

During a court hearing Tuesday, Associate Judge Rebecca Spencer scheduled a preliminary hearing June 30 at 1:30 p.m.

First appearance delayed for shooting suspect

A first appearance for an Elwood man charged in a recent shooting has been continued.

A defense lawyer filed a motion to continue the first appearance for Angel Maisonet-Laboy until this Friday.

Maisonet-Laboy is being held in the Buchanan County Jail on one count of assault in the second degree. A judge earlier set bail at $50,000 cash.

The defendant is accused in connection with a fight last weekend outside a downtown nightclub. St Joseph police say Maisonet-Laboy went to his car and retrieved a hand gun. He is accused of firing two shots, one of which hit Kraig Buckner in the upper leg.

Associate Judge Rebecca Spencer re-scheduled the first appearance for Friday, June 17, at 8:15 a.m.

Correction: Police still searching for suspect after man allegedly assaulted at U.S. Oil

police lights featureA 77-year-old man was allegedly injured Monday near Midtown trying to stop another man from stealing his vehicle.

The St. Joseph Police said it’s still searching for a suspect after a man stole a vehicle Monday around 5 p.m. at U.S. Oil located at 601 S. 22nd St.

Capt. Jeff Wilson said witnesses reported that the older man parked in front of the station and a younger man assaulted him in an attempt to steal his vehicle. During the incident the vehicle went into motion and the older man fell from the van causing injuries. Correction, police said Tuesday afternoon the victim is in serious condition not minor injury as they first thought.

The suspect was described as a white man with short dirty blond hair and a thin build weighing 130 to 135lbs with a tattoo on his right shoulder. The suspect was possibly wearing a white tank top under a gray cutoff shirt.

The stolen vehicle was described as a 2004 gold Chevrolet Astro van. Police located the vehicle Tuesday. The suspect was still at large.

Missouri man killed in SE Kansas crash

KHP patchA Nevada, Missouri truck driver was killed in a crash in southeastern Kansas Monday evening.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says a semi driven by 52-year-old Jayson Wessley crossed the center line on U.S. Highwaty 169 south of Iola at 7:12 p.m. Monday. According to the crash report, the truck crossed the highway, left the roadway, went into a ditch and then became wedged in an underpass.

Investigators say the big rig almost hit a vehicle in oncoming traffic. The crash report indicates that second driver in oncoming traffic wound up in the ditch avoiding the truck. That vehicle hit a delineator post but never made contact with the semi, and the second driver was not hurt.

Kansas man sentenced for child porn

WICHITA, KAN. – An Emporia man was sentenced Monday to six years in federal prison for distributing child pornography.

Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said Zachary E. Krueger, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of distributing child pornography. In his plea, he admitted he distributed child pornography over the Internet using an encrypted peer-to-peer network.

The investigation began with an Internet chat between Krueger and an undercover agent in Delaware. Krueger gave the agent a password to access and download files including images of prepubescent children engaged in sexual activities. Investigators traced Krueger’s IP address back to his home in Emporia.
