Northwest student pleads guilty to making terrorist threat

A Northwest Missouri State University Student charged with making a terrorist threat pleaded guilty Monday in Nodaway County court.

Conner Stottlemyre, 19 of Blue Springs was charged in Nov. with making a terrorist threat. He is accused of making threats on Yik Yak that read, “I’m gonna shoot any black people tomorrow, so be ready.”

Yik Yak is the same social media application a Missouri S & T student is accused of using to make threats.

Stottlemyre is scheduled for a sentencing hearing for Feb. 22.

$50,000 Powerball ticket sold in northeast Kansas

The January 9 winning numbers were 16-19-32-34-57 Powerball 13 Power Play 3. No ticket matched all numbers.

Although the jackpot eluded Kansas players (and everyone else), there were 134,395 winning Powerball tickets in Kansas that night. One ticket sold in northeast Kansas, matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball to win $50,000.

Computer Virus Scam Alert issued by Chillicothe Police

ScamThe Chillicothe Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam involving their computers.

“On January 8th, 2016, the Chillicothe Police Department received numerous phone calls from citizens advising they were contacted by phone by an unknown person representing an unknown Technical Support Agency,” the department said on Facebook. “The unknown person requested computer codes and personal information from the citizens, advising their computers had a virus.”

The department warns not to give any personal or computer information out to anyone over the phone.

“This is a SCAM,” the department warned.

The department advises anyone who may have fallen victim to this scam to contact their police department and monitor credit and banking information.

St. Joseph man charged with Statutory Rape

A 37-year-old St. Joseph man is accused of raping a child under the age of 12 in his care.

Gordon M. Stone II was charged Friday with a felony for Statutory Rape in Buchanan County.  According to court documents, from Aug. 2014 to Oct. of 2015 Stone committed the act of statutory rape with a girl under the age of 12 multiple times.

“The defendant was responsible for the child’s care at the time of the sexual assault,” Officer Quentin Abbott with the St. Joseph Police Department said. “The defendant had sexual intercourse with the child victim multiple times over the course of several months.”

Stone is being held in the Buchanan County Jail on $25,000 bond. An arraignment is set for Tuesday.

(Update) Judge reassignment forces delay in concealed-carry revocation hearing

A Buchanan County associate judge has recused herself from hearing a case involving the concealed-carry firearms permit held by a man who was involved in a highly publicized fight outside a local nightclub.

Kendall Randolph pleaded guilty last year to two misdemeanor charges and was sentenced to ten days in jail.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department also filed a petition to revoke Mr Randolph’s permit.

Associate Judge Rebecca Spencer recused herself from hearing the case that was scheduled for hearing Monday.  The case has been moved to Division 5 and Judge Keith Marquart.  A hearing is scheduled January 21.

 

All northwest Missouri routes back open after flooding

To keep up with the latest road closures for flooding, incidents and roadwork, the Missouri Department of Transportation provides a Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org/northwest. Motorists are advised to check the map or call 1-888 ASK MODOT (1-888-275-6636) before heading out to plan alternate routes, as needed.

Water main break nearly swallows car!

holeMonday morning was a wild one for emergency responders and Streets crews alike.  Among the many mishaps Monday morning, there a water main break early that made for some extremely hazardous driving conditions.  It proved very hazardous for one car in the immediate vicinity.  Crews using a wrecker designed for handling tractor trailers was deployed to lift the vehicle out of a large sink hole.

By the time we caught up with crews from the St Joseph Streets Department they had dug out and around the broken pipe and were preparing to fix it.

By mid-morning, the road remained closed at North Savannah and North Third Street.

 

Two accused of Animal Abuse in northwest Missouri

Two men have been arrested in connection with a case of starving pit bulls found in Wheeling.

Lonnie Buesing, 34 and Tracy Lee Newton, 43 of Carrollton were arrested over the weekend by Independence police. Buesing and Newton are each charged in Livingston County with two felonies for animal abuse.

This stems from an investigation by the LCSO and Livingston County Humane Society allegedly involving 10 grossly emaciated pit bulls that were located in Wheeling.

Both warrants carried $5,000 cash bond and both men have been extradited from the Jackson County Jail and transferred to the Daviess Dekalb County Regional Jail in lieu of bond.

Even with these arrests the LCSO is continuing with this investigation.

Savannah man seriously injured in crash

MSHP purpleA 22-year-old Savannah man was seriously hurt in a single vehicle crash Sunday morning.

An online arrest report filed by the Missouri State Highway patrol shows the driver was arrested on charges of DWI, careless and imprudent driving, and driving without a seat belt.

He was released from custody for hospital treatment.

The crash report says Jackson Girdner lost control of his car along US-71 highway at Savannah at about 5:20am Sunday.  The car left the roadway, hit a guardrail and came to rest in the median.

Mr Girdner was transported to Mosaic Life Care for treatment of what were described at the scene as serious injuries.  He has since been transferred to another facility.

Extreme cold makes driving treacherous

By 6am police officers, deputies, troopers and paramedics were had responded to at least a half dozen traffic accidents and other problems made serious by the extreme cold.

There was also a water main break reported that was causing extremely hazardous driving conditions. Officials urge you to avoid the 1400-1500 N 3rd and 1500-1600 North Savannah Ave.
