St Joe Country Club to be sold

SJCCThe St Joseph County Club is in final negotiations for the sale of the facility to Great Life Golf Kansas City (GLKC). In a news release, the club announced that the Foundation members of the country club have authorized the Board of Directors to finalize negotiations of a purchase agreement.

Terms of the potential sale are not finalized, so were not disclosed.

Great Life Golf Kansas City owns several golf and fitness facilities in the Kansas City area including Staley Farms, a private club in North Kansas City, as well as semi-private clubs, like Drumm Farms in Independence, MO. Rick Farrant, principal of GLKC, also owns Great Life Golf and Fitness based in Topeka, KS. He was recently named as the second most innovative person in the golf industry by Golf Inc. magazine. With over 40 golf and fitness facilities owned or operated by the two entities, they are the largest golf management organization in the Midwest.

If the sale goes through, GLKC plans to make a substantial investment to install a state of the art fitness facility in the clubhouse as well as other improvements to the club facilities.

“We have a proven formula combining golf and fitness along with other club amenities that provides a strong model for club growth. We are excited that a tremendous golf facility with the tradition of the St. Joseph Country Club might become part of our family of elite clubs,” states Mr. Farrant.

The St. Joseph Country Club was founded in 1898. The organization has hosted numerous Missouri Golf Association championships including the 2015 Men’s Stroke Play championship.

Club President Tyler Morgan says, “While we are stable financially and have grown substantially over the last few years, the Board feels that the club can offer our members a brighter future and more amenities under the professional management, additional investment and economies of scale that GLKC offers us.”

GLKC plans to insure a smooth transition by offering to hire the key personnel at the club.

While no deadline is set to complete negotiations, Morgan sees no major barriers to completing a final agreement by the end of the year.
