Larry D. Campbell

1936-2013

Larry D. Campbell, 76, St. Joseph, Missouri died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at his home. He was born July 7, 1936 to Everett Truman and Doris Stevens Campbell in Martinsville, Missouri. Larry married Connie Westlake in 1955. They divorced in 1977. He then married Jean Ann Pearson Barnhouse on September 26, 1977. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1954 and attended Northwest Missouri College for one year. He was employed by the Missouri State Highway Department as a maintenance man in 1955 at Eagleville, Missouri. In 1965 he was transferred to the Materials Department and promoted to Inspector. In 1965 he transferred to the district office in St. Joseph, Missouri and promoted as General Aggregate Inspector. He was the Missouri State Highway Department “Employee of the Month” in August 1993. He retired in September 1993. He was a Master Mason in the Eagleville Mo Lodge for fifty years, being Worshipful Master in 1960. Larry enjoyed woodworking and made many Missouri clocks that are located throughout the United States. The family would like to thank Dr. Kammerer and nurses, Dr. A.J. and nurses at the Cancer Center and Comfort of Home Healthcare and Hands of Hope Hospice. Alma Louise Justus, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. She was born on July 16, 1928 to Edward and Twyla Thomas in Glenwood, Iowa. Alma married Harold Justus and together they had thirteen children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother who loved to sing and bake. She also has a twin brother, Vernard Thomas in Coin, Iowa. We all love her and will miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Twyla Shoemake; brother; and a sister. Doris A. Tiedt, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. She was born December 3, 1927 to Charles Henry and Adria Leola (Harris) Tiedt in St. Joseph, Missouri. Ms. Tiedt retired March of 1990 from Mead after 44 years and one month. She was an avid book reader and collector of music and old movies. Doris was also a lifelong fan of the Lennon Sisters, Lawrence Welk Show and more recently the TV show Bones. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charlie and Carl Tiedt and Irvin Dutton; and sisters, Wilma Trosper and Dorothy Begley. Trudy Parker, 59, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, January 7, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Trudy was born January 28, 1953 and adopted by Rudolph and Shirley Nichols. She married David L. Parker in May 1988. Trudy Parker was a member of Grace Evangelical Church. Trudy was the owner of Parker Paws Grooming, where she was a well-known dog groomer with clients all over the United States and was devoted to animal rescue. She was preceded in death by her parents. Robert S. “Bob” Beeler

1914-2013

Robert S. “Bob” Beeler, 98, St. Joseph, Missouri went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2013. He was born on July 10, 1914 to Samuel J. and Ethel Mary Beeler in St. Joseph, Missouri. Bob was a resident of the VA Home in Cameron, Missouri, a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army, 814th H.Q. BN. of the 7th Armoured Tank Destroyers, and was stationed in Texas and Germany during World War II. He was an over the road truck driver for Beatrice Foods for thirty years. He then had a second career with Stuppy Floral Products Company for thirty years, retiring the second time at ninety years old. Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of St. Joseph, Missouri, and liked to fish and work. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Edith Opal Clinkinbeard; parents; brother, Frederick L. Beeler; daughter-in-law, Marsha; and a grandson, Mark Wilson. Bob is survived by his daughter, Cheryl K. Bachali and husband Tom of St. Joseph; a son, Robert L. Beeler of Kansas City; brother, Marion P. Emma Jean Neudorff

1925-2013

Emma Jean Nuedorff, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, January 11, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. She was born May 28, 1925 in St. Joseph, living most of her life in this city. Mrs. Neudorff was a homemaker, however, had worked at various office positions during her lifetime. She was a fifty year member of First Christian Church, where she served many terms as an elder, in the choir for over twenty years, worked in the church office as a volunteer for twenty years, was the recipient of the First Christian Award and the award for Evangelism, was an active member of the Fortnightly Music Club and a member of The Questers, Joseph Robidoux Chapter. Mrs. Neudorff was very active with her music ability, singing for the U.S.O. during World War II, doing solo work in every city in which she had lived. She also performed the lead in the opera “The Old Maid and The Thief” here in St. Joseph, a Bach Solo Cantata in Conception Abbey, had won a contest among young women in Missouri, Iowa and Illinois to perform as guest soloist with the All City Mens Glee Club of Qunicy, Illinois. This group was patterned after the Fred Waring Glee Club. She was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband, Warren James Neudorff. They were married on March 27, 1948 in St Joseph; parents, Eldridge (Curley) and Tresa (Stewart) Simon; two brothers, Bob Simon and Billy Simon; and sister, Ruth Langdon. James “Jim” T. Lafferty

James “Jim” T. Lafferty, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at his home. He was born April 29, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. On February 17, 1951 he married Joyce Rose Hill. She preceded him in death on May 16, 1992 He owned Lafferty Trucking Service, Red Rocker Antiques, and worked in construction. Jim enjoyed fishing, antiquing, remodeling homes, reading, and bird watching. He is survived by his loving and dedicated companion of thirteen years Mary Jeffers of the home; devoted daughter, Jamie (Stuart) Wombwell; son, Kevin Lafferty; daughter-in-law, Toni Lafferty; granddaughters, Amy Collier and Erron Lafferty; great-grand-sons, Jacob, Brodie, and Colbee; great-granddaughter, Madison Collier; sister, Jean Portis; brothers, Dave Lafferty and Jerry Lafferty; honorary children, Connie Gross (Larry), Steve Shouse (Clarice), Paul Shouse (Deb), Jimmy Shouse (Linda) and their families; and dear family friends Maxine Kubin and Pat Bigelow. Matilda Cardella “Tillie” Fitzpatrick 1930-2013 Matilda Cardella “Tillie” Fitzpatrick, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. She was born September 1, 1930 to Samuel and Frances Cardella in Omaha, Nebraska. Tillie married John A. Poe, Jr. on January 7, 1957. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1974. Later she married Edward Fitzpatrick on July 7, 1987 and he preceded her in death on May 2, 2010. She was an Elementary Teacher for the St. Joseph School District for seventeen years. Mrs. Fitzpatrick was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, a lifetime member of Missouri Retired Teachers Association, a sustaining member of the St. Joseph Junior League, Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Chapter, St. Joseph Historical Society, the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art, the Benton Club and the St. Joseph Country Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and sister, Marianne Meers. Ronald Dean Burns, 55, Sheridan, Missouri, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013,  at St. Francis Hospital,  Maryville, Missouri.Ron  was born  October 3, 1957, in Maryville, to Lowell Dean and Helen LaRue West Burns.

A 1976 graduate of Sheridan High School,  he was a farmer in the Sheridan area and owner /operator of the Burns Service, Sheridan.Preceding in death were his father Lowell Dean Burns in 1983, and grandparents Everett West, and Glen and Helen Burns.Survivors include his mother LaRue Burns, Sheridan, brother Don (Paula)Burns, Charlotte, North Carolina, maternal grandmother Beulah West, Clearmont, Missouri and nephews Nick, Dylan, and Mitch Burns.

Earnest Mack Swing, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. He was born August 9, 1926 to James and Annie Bell (Armstrong) Swing in Petersburg, Tennessee. Earnest married Marguerite Smith on June 27, 1953. She preceded him in death on May 31, 1973. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1952 while stationed in Germany and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Swing obtained a Business degree at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and worked for Wire Rope Corporation of America for thirty-three years in Traffic Control. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and three brothers, Boyd, Linn, and Ray. Donald E. Lucas, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Denver, Colorado died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at a local health care facility in St. Joseph. He was born December 13, 1942 to Bathel Wilkinson and Alberta Lucas in St. Joseph, Missouri. He worked for Norton and Sons Trash Service in St. Joseph before moving to Denver. While living in Denver he worked as a crossing guard for Wyman Elementary School where he received a Meritorious Service Award. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Lucas; and his parents. James R. Vining

1928-2013

James Rodford “Rod” Vining, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was born June 14, 1928 to James John and Edith Alfeld (Johnson) Vining in Kansas City, Kansas. He married Margaret Beth Smith and later divorced. He married Carlene Royston on April 23, 1994. She survives of the home. Dr. Vining earned his PHD from Kansas State University in Microbiology. He later worked as a lab director. Rod was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Praise Band, St. Joseph Yacht Club, Barber Boys, Y-Fry, Buchanan County Republican Club, and the Kansas State University Alumni Association. Dr. Vining also served as 1st Lieutenant in the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents. Robert Edwin Davis

Robert E. Davis, 65, Barnard, Missouri died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013,
at St Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri.
Robert was born  April 6, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late
Frederick Walter Davis Sr. and Ruth Ann Parker.
Robert was a graduate of the South Nodaway High School Class of 1965,
Barnard.  On March 3, 1966 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp,
serving his country in the Vietnam war, where he was a Sergeant and dog
handler.  He was discharged from the Corp on March 2, 1971.
Robert was united in marriage to Karla Victoria Roser, July 28, 2012 in
Barnard.
Robert was a member of the O’Howell-Strader American Legion Post #102,
Barnard, where he served as a past commander and district commander, a life
member of the Bakersfield, California Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #97,
serving as past commander, and had worked as a building inspector for the
State of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include wife Karla Roser Davis, of the home; one son Jeff (Gitti)
Davis, Barnard; one daughter Robin Dredge, Kansas City, Missouri; two
grandchildren Erin and Mason Dredge, Maryville; brothers Bill (Judy) Davis,
Lancaster, California, Ted (Gwen) Davis, St. Joseph, Missouri; one sister
Vicki (Jim) Fenner, St. Joseph; step-father Ted Parker, Barnard, several
nieces, nephews, cousins; and his special four legged friend Bailey.
Mr. Davis has been cremated.  Memorial services will be held 10 AM Saturday,
January 12, 2013 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.
Inurnment will be in the American Legion Cemetery, Barnard with military
services under the auspices of the Tri-C American Legion Post #464,
Conception Junction, Missouri and the James Edward Gray American Legion Post

Larry D. Thompson, 73, Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, died Monday, December 31, 2012. He was born April 13, 1939 to Everett and Anna Thompson in Topeka, Kansas. Larry married Marian K. Burns on June 10, 1962. She preceded him in death in March 2005. He married Nancy Ebberts on September 5, 2009. She survives of the home. He was a microbiologist at Boehringer Ingelheim. Larry was a Deacon at Parkville Presbyterian Church and an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in St. Joseph. He volunteered for the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and the local food pantry. Larry is also survived by his daughters, Karen Thompson Bishop (Bill), Kansas City, Missouri, and Marilyn Thompson (Sam Green), granddaughter Leah Green, Phoenix, Arizona, and a brother, Richard M. Robert (Bob) Keith James

1936-2012

Robert (Bob) Keith James of Bryan, TX went to Heaven on Friday, December 28th in Decatur, IL. Bob was born in Albany, MO on July 30th 1936. He married Dorothy Evans of Savannah, MO. Survivors include his wife Dorothy of 53 years; daughters Beth Holmes and Brad of Decatur, IL, Carolyn James and Heike Mund of Hamburg, Germany and Laura Smith and Scott of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren Morgan Higgins, Casey Gregg, T.J. Holmes, Cameron, Connor, and Creighton Smith; brother Ned L. James and wife JoAnn of Quitman, AR; and several nieces and nephews. Bob grew up in Albany, MO. He completed a degree in Chemistry at Northwest Missouri State; a Master of Science from University of Northern Iowa and a P.H.D. in Science Education from University of Iowa. He taught high school science at Odessa, MO. Later as a Professor of science education at Kansas State and Texas A&M, Bob lived his passion for training and mentoring science educators and he also directed the Texas Alliance for Science. An active member of First Baptist Church of Bryan, TX, Bob thrived on teaching Sunday School, supporting missionaries and serving in church outreach. Bob served in the National Guard. Woodworking, gardening, fishing with his grandchildren and spending time with family and friends were among his favorite activities. Bob and Dorothy treasured their summers in Tin Cup, CO. The prayers and songs of his family surrounded him in death. We are eternally grateful for his life. Inurnment 3:00 P.M. Eugene A. Bartels

Eugene Adolf Carlton Bartels, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri died Saturday, December 30, 2012, at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was born at Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois on August 27, 1925, the son of Henry W. and Lydia (Bunge) Bartels. He was baptized and confirmed at Eden United Church of Christ in Edwardsville, Illinois. He was a member of that church until 1951. He attended grade school and high school in Edwardsville where he graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1943. After a short period in the United States Coast Guard in 1943, he worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers in the Rivers and Harbors Division in the Saint Louis District, where he worked on the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers until 1946. In 1946 to 1950 he attended the Missouri School of Mines where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1950. He was employed by the Missouri State Department of Highways and Transportation in Joplin, Hannibal, Jefferson City and St. Joseph, Missouri, where he retired as Surveys and Plans Engineer in 1985 after 37 years with the department. He married Marilyn Joyce Mounts on August 12, 1951, at the First United Methodist Church in Hannibal, Missouri. They have lived in Saint Joseph, Missouri, since 1958. She survives of the home. He was a member of the Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Joseph since 1958 and served in many capacities in the church including the Chancel Choir, Methodist Men, Commission of Education, the Guy Harden Sunday School Class, and the group who served the Open Door Food Kitchen in St. Joseph. He was a Charter Member of Chi Epsilon (Honorary Civil Engineering Fraternity), Tau Beta Pi (Honorary Engineering Society), and had been a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Road Builders, Northwest Missouri Chapter of Professional Engineers, Maryville Transportation Commission, Saint Joseph Transportation Commission, Mo.-Kan. Regional Council. He was a member of Gideons for some 23 years and was a member of the Shepherd Center of the Greater Saint Joseph Area. Since he retired he had been a member of the Heartland Healthy Hikers Club at East Hills Mall. He had many hobbies, which included genealogy, knitting, model railroading, stamp collection, and hybridizing and raising daylilies. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Selma Dorothea Wilhelmina (Bartels) Rezabek and Ruth Marion Leona Bartels, both of Edwardsville, Illinois. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karla Kay (Bartels) Thies, and husband, Duane, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Thies of Saint Joseph, Missouri. He is also survived by four nephews, Marvin Paul Rezabek and wife Donna of Marietta, Georgia, Bruce Henry Rezabek and wife, Donna, Richard Charles Rezabek and wife, Alice, both of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Francis Wenceslaus Rezabek and wife Nancy of Columbia, Missouri. Also four nieces, Eugenia Ruth Huff of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Mary Josephine Dresch and husband, Bill, of Roxana, Illinois, Theresa Ann Lavelle of Edwardsville, Illinois, and Mary Catherine Hughart and husband James of Fielden, Illinois. Also survived by ten grandnephews, seven grandnieces, eleven great-grandnephews, and two great-grandnieces. Services: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, Huffman United Methodist Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
