Alex D. Blow
1968-2017
HAVENSVILLE – Alex D. Blow, 49, of Havensville, died Saturday, June 24, 2017 near Havensville from injuries sustained in an ATV accident.
He was born February 5, 1968 in Topeka, the son of Robert W. Blow, Jr. and Sandra Lefebvre Blow. He graduated from Onaga High School in 1987.
Alex had worked at various jobs over the years, including Jilka Furniture in Salina, where he worked for ten years repairing and delivering furniture.
He married Kimberli Hahn on December 31, 1994 in Emporia. They were divorced.
Alex was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents, Dale and Lorene Lefebvre, and Robert Blow, Sr. and Anna Stair Blow.
Survivors include his mother, Sandra Blow, Havensville, two sons, Austin Blow and Logan Blow, both of Emporia, a step-daughter, Nicole Shaddix-Olsen, Shawnee, one brother, Robert Blow, III, Havensville, one sister, Andrea Jackson, Belvue and a granddaughter, Maleeah Blow.
Cremation is planned. A Celebration of Life will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 30th at the HRHS Community Center in Havensville. Inurnment will be later in the Havensville Cemetery. Benjamin R. Vineyard
1923-2017

Ben Vineyard was born on New Year’s Day in 1923. He died at his home on June 22, 2017. A
lifelong resident of St. Joseph, he was a homebuilder for 55 years. He graduated from Central High
School in 1940 and from the University of Chicago in 1945. He served in a field artillery unit in France
during WWII.
On April 15, 1955 he married Katherine Ryan and together they had four children who will
remember his all-out enthusiasm for life, his wit, his modesty, his patience and his desire to always
know more. Everyone who knew him will remember Ben as a man of great humor, irreverence and
intellect. After he retired, he began enrolling in courses at Missouri Western State University studying
trigonometry, biology, astronomy, physics and, his favorite, poetry.
Ben was a lifelong Democrat, an early supporter of social causes and a frequent contributor to the
op/ed pages. His well-reasoned and articulated arguments on varied topics will be missed.
Ben loved math, music, science, bourbon, poetry, weather, his dogs and most of all, he loved his
family.
Survivors include his children: Ginny Vineyard (Morrie Pitluck), Kansas City, MO; Ben Vineyard (Kay
Evans), Columbia, MO; Gale Vineyard, Evanston, IL; and Kitty Vineyard (Joe Jochens), Evanston, IL; his
grandchildren, Benjamin Vineyard Scott, Gregory Vineyard Scott, John Vineyard Martin and Gigi
Vineyard -Jochens, his sister and brother -in- law Gigi and Jock Streidl, lifelong friend Don Stallard and
his wife Loah, family friend Carleen Wolfe and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death
by his wife and his brothers George and Barkley Vineyard and his parents, Mildred and George
Vineyard.
To honor Ben’s fascination with the planets and the stars and his excitement about the upcoming
total eclipse of the sun, a memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, August 20, at a time and place to
be determined.

Hazel Ruth Myers, 95, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 at a local health care facility.
She was born November 8, 1921 in Mound City, Missouri to John and Beatrice Long.
Hazel worked at Lee Company for over 30 years before retiring.
She was a good mother who worked hard to provide for her children.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; and sons, Robert, Floyd and Jerry.
Survivors include; daughters, Bette Butler (Jerry), Sharon Bosch, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Carol F. (Bowland) Jackson
1929-2017
Carol F. (Bowland) Jackson, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at a local healthcare facility.
She was born December 29, 1929 to M.T. and Mary Bowland on a farm west of Savannah, Missouri. She lived in the St. Joseph area all her life.
Mrs. Jackson was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where she served as choir director for ten years, pianist, and member of WAMM.COM, UMW, and Prayer Shawl ministry and attended Sunday school regularly. She was a former member of King Hill United Methodist Church where she served as an organist for 27 years, sang in the choir and the gospel group, Chair of Christian Ed and was a charter member of the Ages & Stages Class. Professionally she was a member of the MSTA and the St. Joseph Retired Teachers Association.
Carol graduated from Savannah High School, received her Associates Degree in Education from St. Joseph Junior College, Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education from Missouri Western State College and her Master’s Degree in Education from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri.
She taught school in St. Joseph for three years, worked at Katz Drug Store, Mannschreck Store, and the Veteran’s Office. After earning her teaching degree, she taught for Buchanan R-IV School District, retiring in 1978.
She married Ronald Jackson from St. Joseph on November 25, 1949. He preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Teresa Jackson; brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Betty Bowland; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Della Bowland; and brother and sister-in-law, Blaine and Margaret Bowland.
Carol is survived by a son, Gaylen Jackson of St Joseph; Jan Jackson of St Joseph; four grandchildren, Aaron Swett of St Joseph, Christina Jeffery (Mike) of Kansas City, Andrew Wegenka of Panama City Beach Florida, and Stuart Wegenka; five great-grandchildren, Kaden, Michael, and MariLynne Jeffery of Kansas City, and Adara and Atticus Wegenka of Panama City Beach, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews, several brothers and sisters-in-law, and many dear friends.
She loved God, her family, her many friends, her church, traveling, senior bowling, keeping in touch on Facebook, gardening, country and gospel music. She truly enjoyed life.

St. Joseph, Missouri – Virgil Pomeroy Rush, 72, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Mosaic Life Care.
Virgil was born on April 11, 1945 in Highland, Kansas to Joe & Wilma (Marsh) Rush.
He was of the Christian faith. Virgil was a toolmaker & worked for Altec, retiring in 2009.
Virgil married Donna Myers on October 3, 1992. She survives of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents & a sister, Merle Olds.

Robert “Bob” F. Wilson
1928-2017

Robert (Bob) Wilson, 89, of St. Joseph, went to be with his heavenly father on Friday, June 23, 2017.
Bob was born on April 23, 1928 in St. Joseph to Olive and Mary Walker.
Bob was known for his energetic personality and many interests. He loved fishing, camping, bingo, playing cards, and vacationing, especially in Branson and Las Vegas. When he was younger, he loved dancing and spending Saturday nights at the Eagles Lodge. He was a hard worker. He attended Benton High School, and worked at Armour Meat Packing for 39 years. He was one of the best at what he did. He built, with his own hands, the home where he raised his family and lived there for the remainder of his days. His garden was his pride and joy during the summer with enough green beans and tomatoes to share with friends and family.
Bob’s life was a wonderful one. The way he lived is an example to all of us. Friends and family were always a priority for him. He will be terribly missed, but we find comfort knowing he has probably already met up with those who left before him.
Bob was preceded in death by: his wife Barbara Wilson, son Larry Wilson, parents Olive and Mary Walker, 2 sisters June Wilson and Maxine McKenny, and a brother, Gilbert Wilson.

Barry L. Reynolds
1948-2017

Barry L. Reynolds, 69, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2017.
He was the son of Don and Nettie Reynolds and born in Union City, Tennessee.
He graduated from Central High School, attended University of Tennessee, earned his undergraduate degree from Missouri Western State University, and then later received his master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University.
Barry and Barbara (Gach) were united in marriage August 6, 1977 in St. Joseph. He taught in the St. Joseph Public School District for over 25 years and continued part time work in the district mentoring and teaching in the classroom.
Barry taught English and Talented and Gifted Literature/Humanities for numerous years. His students recall his unique and sometimes surprising methods of bringing literature and ideas to life. Hoping to mold life-long readers, Barry taught his students how to read deeply, gave them time to talk about challenging ideas, and offered them the freedom to express themselves creatively.
Barry was a beloved hurdle coach for over 35 years to countless high school track and field athletes, a prolific literature enthusiast, and a loyal Kansas City Royals and Chicago Cubs baseball fan.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Abbey Thornton (Drew); grandchildren, Emma and Grace; and brothers, Jim (Sue) and Tim (Becky); and several nieces and nephews.

Zelbert Dale Jenkins 83, of Saint Joseph, Missouri passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Mosaic Life Care. He was born January 7, 1934 in DeKalb, Missouri, son of Lula & Clarence Jenkins. He was a Body Repair man for Karle Carriage Works for over 30 years. He served in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed working on TV’s, Radio’s, VCR’s, and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion. Zelbert was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jenkins, his parents, son, Steven Dale Jenkins, four brothers, Eugene Roy Jenkins, Charles Ervin Jenkins, Lealon Ray Jenkins, and Clarence Henry Jenkins, Jr. He is survived by daughter, Stacy (Kevin) Butterfield of St. Joseph, MO, two grandsons, David Drake and Brandon Drake, a great grandson, Gauge Drake, sister, Wilma (Andrew) Maret of DeKalb, MO, sisters in law, Janice Jenkins of Cypress, TX, and Betty Jenkins of St. Joseph, Mo, and his care giver, MaDonna “Dottie” Walker of St. Joseph, MO. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Saturday at the Rupp Funeral Home. David Francis Thompson

David Francis Thompson, known by his friends as “Cotton”, died June 18, 2017 after battling lung-bone cancer. Born January 4, 1951, David was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph MO. He is preceded in death by his mother Betty Jean (Orr), father Wilbur F. Thompson, and nephew Sean M. Thompson. He is survived by his daughter Andrea (Scott) Crockett of Rushville MO, grandchildren Taylor, Colby and Landon Crockett, brothers John (Juanita) Thompson of St. Joseph, Patrick Thompson of Kansas City MO, Mark (Bobby Sparks) Thompson of Little Elm TX, sister Anne (Roger) Roseberry of St. Joseph, nephew Chad (Stefanie) Thompson, nieces Jenny Leonard, Melissa Friger of St. Joseph, Devin (Chad) Blomquist of Kansas City MO, and numerous great nephews, nieces, and cousins.
David loved all things outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, and most of all, time spent on the Missouri River with his friends and fellow “River Rats”. Visitation for family and friends will be at Rupp Funeral Home June 28, from 6 to 8pm. In lieu of a traditional service, there will be a celebratory party of remembrance at the river on a date yet to be determined. Edwin Frank “Frankie” Rumpf 82, of Faucett, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at his home in Faucett, MO. He was born May 30, 1935 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Hazel and Frank Rumpf. He graduated from Agency High School in 1953. He was a farmer and truck driver for many years. He loved all animals and enjoyed playing softball. Da’Jour “Duke” Lucas, 20, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017.
He was born March 27, 1997 to Searcy Johnson and Danielle Lucas, they preceded him in death.
Duke was a production worker at Kawasaki.
He was a loving caring person and always had a smile on his face. Duke enjoyed spending time with his family and was his brother’s keeper, he loved Da’Shawn with all his heart. He was a track superstar.
Duke was also preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Herbert Lucas; maternal great-grandmother, Ruth Ewing; cousin, Serenity Faith Grayson.

Edmund Wilking “Ed” Kline, M.D.
1929-2017

Edmund Wilking “Ed” Kline, M.D. departed this life June 16, 2017. He was born on December 16, 1929 in Olean, New York to Dr. Edmund K. and Katherine (Wilking) Kline.
Ed grew up in Cuba, New York, graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and then in 1955 from Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore. After an internship at the University of Wisconsin- Madison he served as a captain in the Army for two years, then completed a three year residency in OB-Gyn at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, New York.
In April 1956 he married Carlyn Molstad in Madison, Wisconsin. In 1961 they moved to St. Joseph and built the first house in Stonecrest. He retired in December 1991 after practicing OB-Gyn for 30 years and then had time to pursue a multitude of hobbies including traveling the world, photography, bird watching, target shooting for which he loaded his own ammunition, wood working, leathercraft, fishing for which he tied his own flies, astronomy, piloting his own plane, writing political blogs, and fixing anything that needed to be fixed. He very much enjoyed classical music and read voraciously.
He was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was also a member of Buchanan County Medical Society and the NRA.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Katherine Gordon; and four brothers-in-law, Dr. Richard Gordon, Theodore Gibson, Dr. Robert Brown and Paul D. Molstad; as well as several beloved dogs.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carlyn; four children, Dr. Kathryn Ellerbeck (Dr. Edward), Kristin Garcia (Dr. Steve), Paul Kline and Dr. James Kline; nine grandchildren, Samantha Ellerbeck (Kevin Draper), Alexandra Ellerbeck, Jonathan, Adam and Charlie Garcia, Lucas Kline (Megan), Gabrielle Kline (Joe Cudworth), Katherine and Maximus Kline; one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Kline; sisters, Carlie Gibson and Elizabeth Brown; sister-in-law, Nancy Molstad, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Carter graduated from Park Hill High School and Northland Career Center in Law Enforcement in 2016 and later attended Johnson County and Maple Woods Community College.
He was an avid baseball fan, played competitive baseball and for his high school baseball team and loved watching the Kansas City Royals. SGT. H.M. “Bud” Munsell
1930-2017

Harold M. “Bud” Munsell, passed away peacefully at Laverna Village in Savannah on June 19, 2017 at the age of 87.
Bud was born May 17, 1930 in Cameron, MO to Silas and Ethel Munsell later moving to Bethany, MO with a few years in South Carolina during the war, then back to Bethany, MO before enlisting in the Army. Bud moved back to Cameron afterwards and then met and married his best friend Doris in 1951 and worked as a master plumber. Later they moved to St. Joseph where they raised their 3 boys and made their home. In 1958 Bud started with the Highway Patrol and worked his way up to Sergeant. After 30 years with Troop H they settled into retirement both Bud and Doris enjoyed traveling and had a winter home in Mesa, Arizona before health issues brought them back to St. Joseph.
Bud is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris; parents, Silas and Ethel; brother, JW; and granddaughter, Erin Munsell

Shawn Kennedy Swoboda, 48, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 18, 2017.
He was born February 17, 1969 to John and Tamara (Kennedy) Swoboda in St. Joseph, Missouri.
He worked many years as a skilled carpenter.
Mr. Swoboda was a loving father who worshiped his daughter, Sarah. He was always the life of the party and would give the shirt off his back to help you. He was loved by many and leaves behind many fond memories.

Gary Roebkes, 85, Mound City, Missouri passed away Monday, June 19, 2017.
He was born June 23, 1931 in Balaton, Minnesota to Rolf and Emma (Winke) Roebkes.
Gary married Barbara Adams September 2, 1989, she preceded him in death July 7, 2009.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Mound City.
Gary was an antique tractor collector.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert Roebkes; and sister-in-law, Nita Roebkes.
Survivors include son, Aaron Roebkes (Debbie), Mound City, MO; daughters, Gina Decker (Butch), Decatur, AL, and Denise Haas (Marc), Deep Water, MO; three granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; step son, Tony Wendaland (Melinda), St. Joseph, MO; three step daughters, Loretta Moya (Rick), Tulare, CA, Sandra Wendaland, Colton, CA, and Sheree Redelberger (Steve), Beckworth, CA; close friend, Verlene Whetzel; numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Friday, Pettijohn & Crawford Family Funeral Service. Interment Benton Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, Pettijohn & Crawford Family Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Maurice Ellis, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, June 19,
2017. He was born April 10, 1924 to Maurice and Gladys Ellis, Sr.
Maurice is survived by his wife, Doris Ellis. He is preceded in death by
his parents. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the
Alzheimer’s Association. Private graveside service at a later date under
the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home and Crematory.
