Sen. Blunt Applauds Court Ruling To Block Obama’s Executive Action On Immigration

BluntWASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) praised a move by a federal judge in Texas who issued a preliminary injunction against President Barack Obama’s executive action on immigration.

In December 2014, Blunt joined an amicus brief led by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (Texas) and co-signed by U.S. Senator John Cornyn (Texas) in support of the lawsuit brought by the State of Texas against President Obama’s illegal amnesty.

“The president cannot continue to blatantly ignore the nation’s laws and the Constitution. This ruling reaffirms that President Obama was right when he said at least 22 times he didn’t have the authority to take this action on immigration,” said Blunt. “I’ll keep fighting to stop President Obama’s illegal amnesty. It’s time for Senate Democrats to join us in standing up for the rule of law and to begin debate on the bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security.”

In January 2015, Blunt reintroduced the ENFORCE the Law Act, which would ensure the president upholds his constitutional obligation to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.” Blunt recently spoke on the U.S. Senate floor regarding his efforts to stop the president’s executive amnesty. Chiefs begin clearing space by releasing 2 WRs

ChiefsKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs released wide receivers Donnie Avery and A.J. Jenkins on Tuesday as they began to clear roster and salary cap space ahead of what could be a busy offseason.

Kansas City is facing the loss of All-Pro linebacker Justin Houston and center Rodney Hudson in free agency. The Chiefs are expected to meet with Houston’s representatives about a long-term deal on Wednesday in Indianapolis, and the possibility remains of using the franchise tag on him.

Either way, the Chiefs could be facing some difficult financial choices if they want to keep Houston or Hudson, or both. Releasing Avery and Jenkins saved the Chiefs nearly $5 million, though it makes targeting a wide receiver in free agency or the draft a priority.

KANSAS CITY (AP) – Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon said he plans to restore nearly $5 million in state funding for the Truman Sports Complex and Bartle Hall in Kansas City.

The money was eliminated in Nixon’s proposed budget, without explanation. That caused concern for Jackson County and Kansas City officials who count on the state subsidy to run the home of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and Bartle Hall, which attracts several conventions to the city.

Nixon spokesman Scott Holste said the funding was left out of the governor’s budget proposal by mistake. Nixon announced Monday he planned to restore the money.

City and county officials said they were told the problem was apparently a clerical error.
