Two people were injured in a Monday night crash in Clay County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports a 2004 Cadillac driven by Aaron M. Dyche, 29, Kansas City, was southbound on I-35 and rear-ended a 2003 Kia driven by Donna M. Stanley-Gouge, 56, Gladstone.

Both vehicles traveled off the right side of the road and down an embankment.

Dyche and Stanley-Gouge were transported to North Kansas City Hospital.

The MSHP reports both drivers were wearing seat belts.

LANAGAN, Mo. (AP) — Authorities in southwest Missouri are investigating the second death of an infant at a McDonald County home in slightly more than a year.

Sheriff’s officers were called to a home in Lanagan on Sunday morning about an unresponsive 2-month-old girl. The infant was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Roark says the mother lost a 2-month-old baby in the same manner in January 2013.

Sheriff’s officers plan to present their findings in the latest death to the McDonald County prosecutor for possible charges. Roark says two other children in the home have been placed in foster care.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Some Missouri lawmakers want to make it easier for members of the military to vote when they return from deployments.

Missouri now requires people to register about a month in advance to be eligible to vote. The law sets the registration deadline as the fourth Wednesday before an election.

The exception also would apply to civilian government employees and their families who are working outside the U.S., and to members of religious or welfare organizations who are assisting service members.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Thirteen people say their placement on the U.S. government’s no-fly list deprives them of their due process rights, while lawyers defending the government say explaining such placement would endanger national security.

In August, U.S. District Court Judge Anna Brown’s rejected the government’s assertion that people on the no-fly list can travel by other means.

She asked the government for more information about its redress procedure to help her determine whether it satisfied due process requirements for the plaintiffs.

Government lawyers in federal court on Monday cautioned Brown not to write new rules if she decides that the system is unfair.

Plaintiffs’ attorneys argued that the process is inherently unfair by refusing to tell people what evidence put them on the list and shutting them out of the appeals process.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — The former financial manager of a Branson condominium complex has admitted embezzling $311,000 from the owners’ association.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says 35-year-old Sarah Underwood, of Galena, pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to wire fraud, money laundering and failing to file a tax return.

Prosecutors said Underwood admitted writing about $311,000 worth of checks on the condo association’s accounts and using the money on personal expenses, including a $76,000 Shelby Mustang. She also bought a condo at Fall Creek, and steered $80,000 to her boyfriend’s construction company without showing any work done at the complex.

CHICAGO (AP) — TV pitchman Kevin Trudeau has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for bilking consumers via infomercials for his best-selling weight loss book.

In sentencing the 50-year-old Trudeau in Chicago federal court Monday, U.S. District Judge Ronald Guzman said that for decades Trudeau “steadfastly attempted to cheat others for his own personal gain.”

Trudeau apologized, saying he was a changed man.

Prosecutors had said they could think of no comparable case of someone cheating people so brazenly. They said Trudeau deserved a sentence of at least 10 years. But defense attorneys said he should serve no more than two years.

Trudeau sold more than 850,000 copies of his book, “The Weight Loss Cure They Don’t Want You to Know About.” He touted it in commercials that often employed news-interview formats.

Colony, Kans. —A volunteer firefighter was injured on the way to a Monday morning fire in Anderson County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol a 1985 Chevy Silverado driven by Sarah Elizabeth McDaniel, 29, Colony, was traveling northbound on SW Delaware Road, responding to a grass fire.

She lost control of the truck and left the roadway striking a tree. She was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

The KHP reports they did not know if she was wearing a seat belt.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A Wichita man accused of trying to bring explosives-filled van to Mid-Continent Airport has become the face of an anti-terror bill in the Kansas Legislature even though he has pleaded not guilty and has not been convicted.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports critics are urging Kansas lawmakers to avoid using the name of Terry Loewen to push for the measure because he is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. A chief backer of the bill, Rep. Kevin Jones, acknowledged that he might have gone too far in discussing Loewen’s case.

Loewen has pleaded not guilty to charges related to his arrest Dec. 13 in a sting operation. Among those charges is attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
