(AP) Missouri’s two U.S. senators say their home state is the right place for Boeing Co. to build its new 777X commercial airplane.

In a letter Tuesday to Boeing executives, Republican Roy Blunt and Democratic Claire McCaskill noted that the company already has more than 15,000 employees in Missouri.

Blunt and McCaskill also cited Missouri’s transportation network – including rail, highways and rivers – and what they called the state’s “track record of success in building airplanes.”

The senators made their pitch as Missouri legislators meet in a special session called by Gov. Jay Nixon to consider offering Boeing more than $1.7 billion worth of incentives over two decades.

(AP)  Missouri budget officials say the state’s tax revenues have increased 2.2 percent through the first five months of the current fiscal year.

The Office of Administration reported Tuesday that net general revenue totaled $3.11 billion from July 1 through the end of November, compared with $3.04 billion in the same period a year earlier.

The report says Missouri collected $2.19 billion in individual income taxes through November, up 2.6 percent from the $2.13 billion collected in the same period last year. Sales and use tax collections are up 2.9 percent this year.

Corporate income taxes are up about 32 percent for the year.

(AP) — Kansas City police say a Missouri man who was found in someone else’s vehicle outside Arrowhead Stadium and then died in a struggle had gone to a game between the Chiefs and the Broncos in a similar vehicle.

Police released new details Tuesday in Sunday’s death of Smithville resident Kyle Van Winkle after a parking lot altercation during the game. Police say Van Winkle’s body did not show obvious signs of trauma.

Police say a man returned to his vehicle during the game and found Van Winkle inside. That led to a fight between the vehicle owner and Van Winkle.

Police say Van Winkle went to the game in a similar vehicle and the vehicle he was found in showed no signs of a break-in.

 

(AP )   The City Hall in Kansas City was evacuated Tuesday because of a bomb threat and police have reportedly blown up a suspicions item they found.

(AP) — The Nebraska State Penitentiary is still on lockdown after 33 inmates refused to return to their cells Monday night.

A Department of Correctional Services spokeswoman said Tuesday that the inmates were protesting a year-old policy that limits the number of inmates who can be in the prison yard at one time. The policy was enacted to reduce conflicts among inmates.

Spokeswoman Dawn-Renee Smith says there were no injuries or major damage in the protest, aside from some fires in trash cans that were extinguished. Some inmates were moved to other locations because of the smoke.

Smith says prison staff members are investigating the fires. The inmates who protested were not violent, and were all secured Monday night.

(AP) – New details about Missouri’s bid for a Boeing assembly plant show the state could offer more than $1.7 billion of incentives over two decades.

 

Gov. Jay Nixon’s office released details about the incentives Tuesday to The Associated Press as lawmakers prepared to hear testimony about it in a special session.

 

Nixon also said a new agreement among St. Louis labor councils could help Missouri compete for the Boeing 777X airplane.

 

Boeing solicited proposals to build its next-generation commercial aircraft after union members in Washington state rejected a proposed contract that sought concessions.

 

Missouri’s potential package of incentives is based on the jobs created. If Boeing adds 2,000 jobs, the incentives could total up to $435 million by 2040. If Boeing adds 8,000 jobs, the incentives could total $1.74 billion.

 

 

(AP) – Committees of the Missouri House and Senate have scheduled hearings on incentives aimed at helping persuade Boeing Co. to build its 777X commercial aircraft in the state.

Lawmakers on Monday opened a special session called by Gov. Jay Nixon to consider a package of up to $150 million annually in incentives for Boeing.

On Tuesday, a Senate committee plans to meet at 5 p.m. to consider the proposal. The House Economic Development Committee is scheduled to consider that chamber’s legislation following the conclusion of the Senate hearing.

Missouri is among several states seeking to win the 777X. Nixon says the state is facing a Dec. 10 deadline to submit an offer to Boeing.

(AP) Greene County authorities say a woman is in custody after the owners of a home she allegedly burglarized chased her down.
Sheriff’s deputies went to a home east of Springfield Sunday after receiving a report of a burglary in progress. Deputies say the owners saw vehicles parked in the driveway, and the drivers took off. The homeowners followed one of the vehicles and were able to pull it over.
The van had several boxes inside that the homeowners said belonged to them. A woman driving the van was booked into the Greene County Jail. She has not been formally charged.
The sheriff’s department says the same home has been burglarized three other times since Nov. 5. Three people were arrested in two of the burglaries.

 (AP) — High school students in the Blue Valley School District in suburban Kansas City are part of a pilot project involving an international test that can be used to evaluate how they perform in comparison to some top-flight international students.

Blue Valley’s five high schools have been taking a pilot version of the international test called the Program for International Student Assessment. Their scores can be compared with those of top-scoring school systems such as those in Shanghai, Singapore and Finland.

About 126 schools across the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom are also taking part in the pilot program.

The Blue Valley’s recent average scores are encouraging. Roughly five countries out of 65 scored statistically higher, and the next eight were statistically equal.

 (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks fans have set a new noise record for loudest outdoor sports stadium, taking back a mark they achieved earlier this season.

An official from Guinness World Records recorded the crowd noise at 137.6 decibels during the Seahawks victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. The record came during the second quarter of Seattle’s 34-7 victory and was announced on the Seahawks Twitter page.

Seahawks fans had set a record of 136.6 in a win over San Francisco in September. The mark was topped by Kansas City fans in October with 137.5 decibels.

To put that in perspective, a jet engine at 100 feet is about 140 decibels.

(AP) — The body of a 101-year-old North Bend woman was found in her fire-damaged home in eastern Nebraska.

Firefighters were sent to the home a little before 6 p.m. Saturday, after a passer-by reported seeing smoke coming from the house’s attic.

Dodge County Sheriff Steve Hespen says Sylvia Slavik died in her home, where she’d lived alone.

The fire case is being investigated.
